FIDO AI

No one doubts that the most precious resource in the world, water, must be extremely careful when its scarcity affects millions of inhabitants on Earth, among other inconveniences.

With a constantly growing population – the United Nations estimates that in 2037 we will reach 9 billion people – and the consequent increase in the demand for water, with 2.2 billion people without access to drinking water services (according to UNICEF), AI is increasingly being used to optimize water management, identify and prevent possible crises and improve supply efficiency, among other key axes.

In this context, a powerful and revolutionary Artificial Intelligence model has been born, called FIDO AI, which helps humans make the most accurate decisions regarding water treatment and management.

FIDO offers precise information for immediate priority actions and long-term planning. The system that uses this disruptive technology is called FIDO Way: it consists of an integral process focused on AI that monitors human action in each sequence, starting from the water extraction and management cycle (from the optimal placement of sensors to the interpretation of data and knowledge provided by AI to achieve the most effective process).

In this way, FIDO Way treats each water event as an asset, allowing end-to-end mapping of each situation, which in turn is fully auditable and measurable. The results appear in real time through a smartphone application and the portal of this development.

It works as a deep learning algorithm, consisting of several levels, which is trained based on the veracity of the verified data and is capable of selecting new valuable information to help water engineers and specialists in this field in key tasks.

One of the best examples to see how this AI model is advancing (and the benefits it brings) is what is happening in the Colorado River basin in the United States. River or lake ecosystems are a complex system that remains a difficult scientific challenge to study and are increasingly subject to severe degradation. This is no exception.

There, FIDO AI – finding water AI –  has developed a transparent AI-based model to quickly detect and replenish leaks in this stressed watershed. The system is supported and implemented by volumetric water benefit accounting.

Volumetric water benefit accounting (VWBA) is a methodology for valuing sustainable water management activities recognized by the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS).

Using VWBA, this AI detects and accounts (from leaks and other factors) for how water can be optimally managed and treated. It compares and verifies the measured changes in water flow (before and after leak repairs). Once this step is completed, FIDO AI continuously monitors the network and the water saved from repaired leaks over a period that can exceed three years.

The disruptive technology mentioned includes water quality monitoring, tracking water use, and identifying potential problems in supply infrastructures. It is used to analyze large amounts of data in real time, allowing water managers to detect potential problems before they become crises.

Thanks to this tool, water managers are helped to reduce waste of the resource and ensure that water demand is effectively met. In short, everything points to a compelling reality: AI in water management opens a door of hope to the world, which will be essential in the coming times.
